Donna Donnellon

Founder and Director

“When I began my home-based child care center in 1994, I had a vision of one day opening my own child care center. That dream turned into reality when Northbrook opened its doors in March of 2010. I have earned my CDA (Child Development Associate) in 2005. I am a member of the NAEYC (National Accreditation of the Early Young Child) and a member of the MIAEYC (Michigan Accreditation of the Early Young Child). I have also received over 132 certificates of training in all phases of child development. I thank you for considering Northbrook Early Childhood Academy and am confident you will find our facility an exceptional child-care center where children have the ability to learn and grow in a nurturing, Christ-centered learning environment.”

Justine Short

“I have always had a heart for children. While raising three children of my own, I completed my Associates Degree in general science with an emphasis in child development. I have worked in the child care field for over sixteen years and I am truly blessed to have the opportunity inspire and help children learn and grow at Northbrook.”

Andrea Peters

Lead Pre-K Teacher

“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is hearing my past students tell me how well they’re doing in Kindergarten and how much fun and success they’re experiencing in their next level of education. I have been a part of the Northbrook Academy family for four years. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Oakland University. After realizing my true passion was early childhood education, I later went on to earn my CDA (Childhood Development Associate). I am dedicated to the growth and development of children and can’t wait to hear more success stories from our Northbrook students.”

Serena Smith

Lead Preschool Teacher

“My name is Serena Smith I have been blessed to be part of the Northbrook family since 2016. I have worked in many classrooms, this year my heart is set in the preschool class. I use every day in the classroom to plant the seed of Jesus in each child’s heart. My main goal as a leader in the classroom is to teach kindness and give opportunities to explore nature and increase independence.

As a new mom myself it has been a blessing to have my daughter be part of the Northbrook family. “

Shannon McCallumore

Transition Two Lead Teacher

“I have worked at Northbrook as a classroom assistant for three years. I recently graduated with honors from Ashford University and obtained my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Prior to this, I worked in my high school’s daycare as an intern for two years as part of a program through St. Clair County RESA. I was also proud to be a part of a program called Blast Off to Learning that promotes learning through play and educational experiences for children birth through five. In my spare time I love spending time with my husband, family, and friends. I love going for walks and bike rides. I also enjoy listening to music, singing and reading.”

Kourtney Geiger

Two’s Lead Teacher

“I have been with Northbrook for three years. However, I have been in the field most of my life helping my mother as a home daycare provider. Growing up with a day care in my home made choosing it as a career a natural choice. I am currently working on my CDA and plan to continue my education in this field. I have also received certification in ABA therapy for children. My passion is being part of the Northbrook team. I am blessed to be here everyday and to be greeted by sweet smiling faces. I enjoy showing these children love and teaching them to be confident, kind, and loving people.”

Michelle Steiner

Young Toddler Lead Teacher

“I have a passion for working with children. In addition to my job here at Northbrook, I also volunteer in my church nursery, provide occasional childcare for my cousins, and I was a nanny throughout high school. I began my career at Northbrook when I was nineteen years old and throughout my time here, it has taught me to always pursue excellence and compassion, and it has given me the foundation to help me grow. I currently hold a CDA certification and continually stay current with additional training so I can always be the best teacher I can.”

Joanna Kowalski

Infant Lead Teacher

“I am thrilled to be the Lead Infant Teacher here at Northbrook! I received my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from Central Michigan University. I’ve previously worked with children as a nanny and a babysitter and have volunteered in various nurseries. In my spare time, I love spending time with Arthur, my six-year old nephew. It is a pleasure watching him grow. My favorite hobbies are reading, horseback riding, and walking/hiking nature trails.”

What Our Families are Saying

“A wonderful preschool that really cares for and about the children. Our 4-year old has thrived here with social interaction and through the lessons of the teacher. Couldn’t ask for a better place for our son to grow.”

“Northbrook takes exceptional care of not only the children but the needs of the entire family. Their educational program gives children a huge advantage when transitioning to grade school. The staff and management are truly a blessing.”
